Abstract

Climate change is strongly correlated with educational attainment. Climate change education (CCE) is an essential part of environmental schooling, education for development turn of events and eco-social capability. Citizenship, human rights, media instruction and education are closely related. The objective of this research is to assess the perception of climate change awareness at the secondary level of education. The questionnaire was designed to collect two types of data. The first part of the data consisted of the teacher’s perception tool and the second one was about the student’s perception tool. Each type was divided into different headings like general environmental concerns, global environmental issues, attitudes and behaviors of students, barriers, opportunities and information about them. Climate change education is being provided as a baseline study at the school level to change the attitude and behaviors of students as well as teachers for the future and more a holistic approach. Qualitative studies showed that the behaviors and level of awareness related to climate change education in schools can be expressed through the voices of students, as well as through their teachers. Climate change education should be embraced by all sectors especially in school education departments, because it is a reality and changes are happening. It is recommended to keep students’ knowledge of climate concerns up to date, teachers must be sufficiently prepared and sensitive to the degree of students’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices connected to climate change.
