The Formulation and Evaluation of Silver Chlorhexidine Chitosan Nanocomposite as a Modern Wound Dressing
Abstract
Wounds infections presents a serious threat and may leads to complications. Topical drug delivery system for the prevention of wounds infections is an alternate delivery system for delivering the therapeutic moiety to its site of action and thus minimizing the side effects associated with the conventional dosage form. Current wounds dressings may lack safety and efficacy our objective was to address these concerns by synthesizing a novel antimicrobial dressing containing an antiseptic drug along with silver nanoparticles that itself possess strong antimicrobial activity used for prevention of wounds infections. The newly synthesized bandage was characterized in vitro for various parameters of bandage. The physiochemical characterization includes SEM FTIR TEM and EDX studies. The bandage is porous and possess excellent antimicrobial properties as compared to simple drug as bandage and chitosan possess good healing properties and provides protection against various infections which the drug does not possess alone as evident from the antimicrobial assay through broth dilution method
