Abstract

This study explores psychologists’ challenges, strategies, and effectiveness of art therapy in addressing mental health issues in Pakistan. Ten art therapists were recruited through a purposive sampling technique. Demographic information sheets and in-depth semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data. Results of the thematic analysis revealed three major themes: challenges, strategies, and effectiveness of art therapy supported by seven sub-themes and fifty-six codes. The study underscores the transformative potential of art therapy in addressing psychological issues while highlighting the urgent need for increased institutional and professional advocacy. Findings offer actionable strategies to promote art therapy, creating awareness and fostering its integration into mental health practices in Pakistan. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on art therapy and provides a foundation for future interventions and policy initiatives.
