Abstract

Introduction:

Curriculum viability is a new method for curriculum evaluation involving the identification of curriculum viability inhibitors. Teachers and students can have different point of view on presence or absence of each inhibitor.

Objectives:

This study aims to find perceptions of the curriculum viability inhibitors at Shalamar Medical and Dental College.

Methods:

A pre-validated survey questionnaire was disseminated among the participants through Google forms using WhatsApp as well as printed copies to the 4th and 5th year MBBS students and faculty members of SMDC. The participation in the research was completely voluntary and teachers and students consenting to be a part of the survey were requested to fill in the questionnaire. The questionnaire employed consisted of closed ended questions only. The data after compilation was analyzed by IBM SPSS 20.

Results:

A total of 169 students filled the pre-validated questionnaire from 4th and 5th Year MBBS students. Amongst the faculty members 109 filled the questionnaire.  The results showed that the curriculum at Shalamar Medical and Dental College had no clear inhibitors. Both teachers and students had either complete or partial agreement on the absence of inhibitors.

Conclusion:

The curriculum at Shalamar Medical and Dental College had no clear inhibitors and was found viable by the two main stakeholders i-e teachers and students.
