Abstract

The well-being of medical students is an important aspect of their education and future as healthcare professionals. It could be interpreted as a reduction in stress, an enhanced experience and engagement in the classroom, and ultimately, increased overall life satisfaction. It comprises of psychological, physical, cognitive and social aspects (Hossain et al., 2022). The psychological component is about student’s life satisfaction, sense of purpose, self awareness, achievement and emotional safety. Physical aspect includes adapting a healthy lifestyle, regular exercise, proper nutrition, and sufficient sleep. Cognitive aspect is about intellectual growth, critical thinking skills and academic achievements, whereas social aspect involves forming and maintaining meaningful relationships, social support systems and community engagement (Govorova et al., 2020). Before explaining one health principles and its role in students'
well being, it is important to answer certain questions; for example, what are the major threats to their well being? and how can we assess and address these issues effectively? The major threats include but are not limited to parental expectations, financial and housing problems, relationship difficulties, and physical institutional environment. Supportive teachers, peers and mentors, positive relationships, caring parents and a disciplined learning environment can play an important role in addressing these challenges (Schwartz et al., 2020). If these challenges are not addressed appropriately, they can negatively impact the well-being and performance of medical students.
